BIO + CV
Abel Vásquez Arancibia was born in 1994 in Viña del Mar, Chile. He obtained his BFA from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. He is an artist who moves between photography, video, digital media and sculpture. Currently transits Orem, Utah.
His artistic exploration arises from some problems that oscillate between the playful and the reflective. Observing, remembering and forgetting are key in his work, sometimes they are the engine, the beginning or the end.
In his work there has existed and persisted an interest in the hidden, the little or nothing discernible, the fragile, the enigmatic and the versatility of forms and their models, be they people or objects. Always transiting between the sculptural and the photographic, stopping at images, landscapes and objects, at their own peculiarities and at the way they reflect and affect society.
On the back of this inquiry beats a question about memory and oblivion, about what we see and, at the same time, returns our gaze. Because of the way, finally, in which an image, regardless of what it records, is loaded over time and at the same time mutates according to what we know, just like objects.
